Stacia and Andrew contacted us to shoot their engagement session in the winter mountain scenery. We had a few locations in our mind, and after a little explore all the options, we have decided to go with Minnewanka Lake for a sunrise shot.

The lake was mostly frozen, and the strong wind we experienced for the last few days uncovered the ice and made breathtaking scenery. The ice thickness was good enough to give skaters what they wanted, but we tried to stay as close to the land as possible – better safe than sorry.

We met at the Minnewanka Lake parking lot about 40min before the sunset, which allowed us to get to know each other and talk about  our upcoming session. Once we reached the lake and got all our equipment ready, mother nature surprised us with a gorgeous red sky. We started shooting immediately as we knew that red clouds would not last forever.

We have to admit, walking on the ice without any spikes was pretty challenging and scary at times when we heard cracking ice under our feet.

It was a great morning with amazing people, full of new experiences for us as photographers.

Thank you, Stacia and Andrew
